Brie de Meaux PDO

The cream of the crops

It is often said Brie de Meaux is the king of cheese, and the ultimate dessert cheese. One thing is for sure, it is traditionally enjoyed at the end of a meal, due to its creaminess and smooth melt-in-the-mouth texture.

Brie de Meaux obtained its PDO status in 1980, but its history starts in the middle age as a creation of the Rueil en Brie Abbey. With notes of hazelnuts and mushroomy undertones, it’s no surprise this is one of the most famous French cheese still to this day.

Originally crafted West of Paris, Brie de Meaux makers gradually started collecting milk further East. The PDO zone now goes from Seine-et-Marne, all the way into the Meuse region.

Exclusively made from raw cow’s milk, Brie de Meaux has a thin rind with a very soft and tender heart, that should however not be runny. It is ripened for a minimum of 28 days and handcrafted with a special Brie shovel.

The art of ripening

Brie de Meaux PDO goes through several steps of making and ripening, most of which are manual.

This allows for the exceptional taste and texture to shine through, from its youngest maturation profile. A 28 days brie de Meaux will be a completely different cheese to one matures for 50 days, meaning we can offer a cheese for every palate.
