What Makes Sodiaal Cheeses Special?

Sep 06 2024

French cheese is known globally for its quality and its refined excellence in terms of taste, appearance, texture and odour. French cheeses are amongst the most famous cheeses in the world, and as a recognised French cheesemaker and supplier, Sodiaal is fully committed to maintaining and celebrating many centuries of tradition, and ensuring we stay faithful to historic methods and techniques to make sure French cheese stays at the head of the table as one of the world’s most popular delicacies.

To do this we work with our customers, our farmers and chefs across the world, to maintain standards first and foremost, but to also ensure we are honouring the potential of French cheeses and maximising their characteristics to deliver new tastes, new textures and new indulgent experiences.

How does Sodiaal ensure high quality French cheeses?

At Sodiaal we are confident of producing some of the best cheeses in the world, because we are following centuries-old traditions in many cases, and we believe in the principle that if it isn’t broken, then don’t fix it. We are considered by many people as ‘French cheese experts’, but in truth, we are only following and staying faithful to the traditions and methods built up over many years and in many different regions of France, and in some cases since medieval times.

The reason we can be so confident of our processes, however, is that we control these from start to finish. Using our unique ‘Route du Lait’ quality system, we collect milk from our farms, we implement strict quality controls in our production processes, and we work with customers, distributors and chefs to explore new ways to supply cheese and celebrate cheese. Our production route is all about transparency. So, every element of the process is visible and traceable, and our Route du Lait ensures that milk and cheese production is high quality, but also ensures that this follows strong ethics relating to animal welfare and environmental protection.

Our 12,541 Sodiaal farms are audited on a three-year cycle to ensure the internal quality systems are robust and effective in terms of high-quality production, but also in identifying non-conformities and implementing corrective actions. This maintains high standards over the long term, which helps us deliver the best quality of cheeses with consistency.

Mixing the past with the future to deliver high quality French cheeses

The unique quality of French cheeses is the primitive methods that have been developed over many centuries and which are now replicated using cutting edge technology. Effectively, Sodiaal is playing its part in ensuring the World-famous legacy of French cheeses is futureproofed and secured for future generations. So, we have taken methods and techniques from remote farms, forests and mountainous regions of France which were developed by small communities and have preserved them for the future, to be enjoyed by chefs and customers the world over.

Our work with professional chefs has led to French cheese being used in a wide variety of recipes. These have included soups, salads, pasta dishes, pastries, souffles, omelettes and desserts. Our knowledge and experience of how different cheeses, such as Brie de MeauxRoquefortEmmentalCoulommiers or Gruyere, will taste or perform in a dish is unrivalled, and we can work closely with chefs to develop ideas and ensure our French cheeses reach their potential. We see this as a service to our customers, so that even if you are just making the perfect French cheeseboard or are wanting a soft cheese to melt into a favoured dish, we can supply the right cheeses and the right advice.
